Emma Wood

After growing up on the beautiful North Wales coast, Emma moved to London before relocating her family to picturesque West Sussex. She lives in an old vicarage in the shadow of Amberley Castle.

Emma studied fashion design and fine art at the l'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Metz. She spent many years as a designer and buyer in the fashion industry before opening a renowned floristry business in Chiswick, London.

Emma’s work was shortlisted for the 2013 National Open Artist competition. She has had numerous solo exhibitions, most recently at the 2016 Arundel gallery trail. Her work has also featured in national magazines.

Emma sees in shape, and her art is inspired by her fashion and textiles background. She’s also obsessed with colour.

Emma loves the open air, and is lucky enough to live close to the sea on the South Coast, and the stunning Sussex South Downs. Amberley is also a few miles from the ancient town of Arundel, with its imposing castle.

Emma takes inspiration from her surroundings in Sussex – the colours of the seasons, the repetition of the shapes and forms found in nature, the light of the coastline, the undulating waves of the Downs – all of which are captured in Emma’s ‘patternist’ style. Emma reduces shapes down to their most basic form in a minimalist manner, to create an almost textile print-like painting.
